Victoria taxpayers are breathing a sigh of relief now that the money-losing McPherson Theatre is off their hands. Only problem: McPherson is now owned by Capital Regional District taxpayers, meaning the pain is being spread across the south Island.
In 2013, it was revealed that taxpayers subsidize every ticket at McPherson by $30.
In 2015, after two years of hard marketing and “fiscal management,” that subsidy had dropped to $27 per ticket.
Forget transferring this asset to other taxpayers. McPherson should be sold to a private owner.
